G’day in the Quay. We're six days away from North Carolina's annual tradition of paying $20 to park, standing in line for 40 minutes, and eating something that probably shouldn't have survived a deep fryer.
The State Fair opens Thursday, which means it's officially time to abandon whatever healthy habits you developed over the summer.
Closer to home, Naylor Family Farm has baby kangaroos visiting this weekend, fall festivities are in full swing, and there's plenty to do before Raleigh gets its annual eleven-day fever dream.
First time here? Welcome in. Every Friday, we send the best things to eat, drink, hear, and do around Fuquay-Varina. Know someone who’d be into it? Send them this: subscribe here.

THE SHORT LIST
Start Here: Your Weekend Lineup
If you only read one thing this week, make it this. The biggest stuff happening across town this week:
Banded Brothers Charity Golf Tournament | Monday, October 12: A local charity golf tournament supporting families in need. Registration is closed, but donations are still welcome.
Baby Roos in Fuquay | Sat-Sun, Oct 10-11: The Naylor Family farm confirmed the little visitors will be there this weekend.
Octoberfest at Mason Jar | Friday from 5:00 PM: German food, beer and competitions at the Broad Street brewery. Admission is free.
McLean Farms Pumpkin Festival | Saturday, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM: Corn mazes, farm rides, bounce houses, a pumpkin patch and a new mega slide.

MONDAY
⛳ A round of golf for a cause

Banded Brothers Charity Golf Tournament | Monday, October 12
Some things happening around Fuquay deserve a little more attention than your typical weekend plans.
This Monday, Banded Brothers is bringing people together for its charity golf tournament. The local nonprofit is made up of Christian men dedicated to helping individuals and families in Wake County and surrounding communities who fall through the cracks when traditional support systems aren't enough.
The tournament comes at an especially meaningful time. Banded Brothers recently announced the passing of Tim Epling, a beloved member of the organization.
While registration for Monday's tournament has already closed, you don't need a set of golf clubs to make a difference.
If you're in a position to give, consider making a donation. Whether it's $10, $25, or $100, it's an opportunity to support neighbors who could use a helping hand and the organization continuing that work.
SATURDAY
🦘 Baby kangaroos. In Fuquay. Seriously.

Naylor Family Farm | Saturday, October 10, 9 AM–6 PM & Sunday, October 11, 10 AM–6 PM | $24 per person (ages 3+)
You generally have to travel about 10,000 miles to see kangaroos in their natural habitat. This weekend, you can apparently just drive down the road.
Naylor Family Farm reached out to First Sip directly to let us know they're bringing baby kangaroos to the farm Saturday and Sunday. Yes, actual baby kangaroos. And if that isn't enough to convince your kids to put their shoes on, we're not sure what is.
The kangaroos join the farm's usual fall lineup: a seven-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch, 30-minute hayrides, petting zoos, giant slides and more than 20 attractions. Admission includes a pumpkin per paid pass, with a few activities costing extra.
FRIDAY
🍺 Mason Jar puts Oktoberfest on the Friday plan

Octoberfest at Mason Jar | The Mason Jar Lager Company | Friday, October 9, 5:00 PM | Free
Friday’s local Oktoberfest starts at 5:00 PM with German food, beer and competitions at the Broad Street brewery. Admission is free. Try to arrive near the start if taking part matters more than simply getting dinner and a pour. The plan is clear: eat, drink and find out which ordinary task becomes difficult once someone turns it into a competition.
This is The Mason Jar Lager Company, not Mason Jar Tavern. Treat it as an early Friday stop, then move on to the evening’s confirmed music if you want a longer night.
SATURDAY
🎃 McLean Farms turns one wristband into a full fall field day

Image Credit: McLean Farms Pumpkin Patch
McLean Farms Pumpkin Festival | McLean Farms | Saturday, October 10, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM | General admission free; $18 activity wristband ages 3+
McLean Farms is packing five hours with separate corn mazes for kids and adults, tractor hayrides, barrel rides, bounce houses, farm games and a Halloween-character meet-and-greet. The $18 activity wristband also covers unlimited trips down the new mega slide and includes a pumpkin from the patch. Children younger than 3 can enter the activity areas free with a wristbanded adult.
General admission is free, so you can visit the food trucks, vendors, nursery and ice cream shop without buying an activity pass. Arrive near 10:00 if the mazes and rides are the main objective. The festival ends at 3:00, and the wristband includes enough moving parts that showing up for the final hour would require an efficiency level not normally associated with pumpkin patches. Free parking is available onsite.
SATURDAY
🎸 Beatlesque brings the costumes and tunes

Beatlesque | Fuquay-Varina Arts Center | Saturday, October 10, 7:30-9:30 PM | $22
Beatlesque returns to the Arts Center for a two-hour tribute built around the music and stage personas of the Fab Four. The band performs in character and uses period-style costumes, making this a theatrical show rather than four musicians working through Beatles songs in their regular Saturday clothes.
All seats are $22, and the performance starts at 7:30 PM. That timing creates a clean handoff from the afternoon’s farm and pet events to an indoor evening show. The Arts Center describes Beatlesque as a returning act, so advance tickets make more sense than assuming a seat will be waiting at the door.
