Happy Friday and happy birthday weekend to America.

The timing also works nicely because Team USA is still alive in the World Cup. They take on Belgium in the Round of 16 on Monday night, which means we get at least one more chance to gather around a TV and support the boys in red, white, and blue.

And because this is technically a birthday party: George Washington was apparently an ice cream guy. Mount Vernon records show the Washingtons served ice cream to guests, and their estate inventory included multiple ice cream pots. So if you have ice cream this weekend, it’s not dessert. It’s patriotism.

THE SHORT LIST
Start Here: Your Weekend Lineup

If you only read one thing this week, make it this. The biggest stuff happening across town this week:

  • First Friday in Downtown Fuquay-Varina - Friday, July 3, 5:00–9:00 PM: Late-night shopping, dining, downtown sipping, and live music on Broad Street. Basically the easiest excuse to wander around town with a drink and call it a plan.

  • USA vs. Belgium at My Way Tavern - Monday, July 6, 8:00 PM: Best overall World Cup watch-party pick. They’ve been leaning into the USA soccer energy, and if you want jerseys, yelling, and actual game-day drink specials, start here.

  • Aviator Hangar Bar Fourth of July Menu - Saturday, July 4, starting at 4:00 PM: Aviator is rolling out the holiday food lineup with 10 wings for $10, white bean chili with cornbread, garlic bread, or crackers, and pizza available too. Add live music and a big beer, and that’s a pretty strong Fourth of July move.

USA! USA! USA!
