Greetings on to thee, Fuquay. A two-story inflatable jack-o'-lantern broke loose in Cary earlier this month and rolled along a fence, past a church and down the road during strong wind gusts. Workers caught it in about a minute. The pumpkin is now secured with paracord, corkscrew spikes and two tractors. Strap down your inflatables y’all.

Fortunately, this weekend's plans are easier to pin down. Fuquay has Jeki Yoo at the Arts Center, a fire station open house, free trunk-or-treating and Naylor's final fall weekend. Thursday adds a limited-ticket garden night in Raleigh.

First time here? Welcome in. Every Friday, we send the best things to eat, drink, hear, and do around Fuquay-Varina. Know someone who’d be into it? Send them this: subscribe here.

THE SHORT LIST
Start Here: Your Weekend Lineup

FRIDAY
🎩 An international magician takes over the Arts Center

Magician Jeki Yoo | Fuquay-Varina Arts Center | Friday, October 30, 7:30-9:30 PM | $22 adults; $18 seniors and students

Jeki Yoo brings a two-hour magic show to the Arts Center on Halloween Eve. He won the Busan International Magic Festival in 2006 while still in high school, then went on to perform in England, France, Sweden, Italy, Japan, China and Scotland. His Edinburgh appearance came as a member of SNAP, a Korean magic production.

Tickets are $22 for adults and $18 for seniors and students. The 7:30 PM start leaves time for an early downtown dinner, and the scheduled 9:30 finish still permits a second stop if Friday is turning into a longer night. This is the indoor Halloween option for anyone who prefers sleight of hand to standing in a dark field while someone revs a chainsaw.

ALL WEEKEND
🎃 Naylor Family Farm reaches the final lap of fall

Naylor Family Farm Final Weekend | Naylor Family Farm | Friday, October 30, 11:00 AM-4:00 PM; Saturday, October 31, 9:00 AM-6:00 PM; Sunday, November 1, 1:00-6:00 PM | $24 ages 3+; ages 2 and under free

Naylor's fall season closes Sunday after one final weekend of hayrides, pumpkins, a corn maze, animal areas and more than 20 included attractions. Each paid farm pass comes with a pumpkin and a 30-minute hayride. The 2026 additions include a twisty slide built into an old John Deere cotton picker, if grandpa wants an encore with his farm equipment.

Friday is the shortest option at five hours. Saturday has the full 9:00 AM-6:00 PM schedule, while Sunday's final session runs from 1:00-6:00 PM. The farm advises allowing most of the day. Animal feed, gem mining, the Super Mega Slide and apple cannons cost extra, so the $24 pass is the starting number rather than a guaranteed final total. If the maze and hayride are the priorities, Saturday morning offers the most time to finish both without turning the pumpkin patch into a speed trial.

SATURDAY
🚒 Station No. 1 opens for tours and a kids' agility course

Fuquay-Varina Fire Department Annual Open House | Fuquay-Varina Fire Station No. 1 | Saturday, October 31, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM

The Fire Department's annual open house turns Station No. 1 into a four-hour public visit. Families can meet firefighters, tour the facility, see firefighting equipment and learn fire-safety basics. Children also get an agility course and face painting, giving them one activity based on emergency readiness and another based on sitting very still.

The 10:00 AM-2:00 PM window makes this a focused morning or midday stop rather than an all-day festival. Arrive near the beginning if the station tour and equipment are the main draw, then leave the afternoon open for candy routes or the farm. The trucks will attract most of the initial attention. The safety advice is the part everyone may actually use later.

SATURDAY
👻 Costumes move from closets to car trunks

Trunk or Treat 2026 | Crossroads Ford of Fuquay-Varina | Saturday, October 31, 10:30 AM-1:00 PM | Free

Crossroads Ford is turning its lot into a free trunk-or-treat with a costume contest, Best Bronco contest and Best Vehicle Costume competition. The schedule also includes prizes, raffles, giveaways and a DJ. Tombachi Hibachi, BOLT Drinks & Coffee and Fat Cat Homemade Ice Cream are the listed food vendors, and the first 25 children who arrive in costume receive free ice cream.

Admission and parking are free. Anyone entering a decorated vehicle can bring any make or model, though candy must arrive in sealed, unopened bags. For everyone else, the two-and-a-half-hour schedule makes this a quick candy stop with lunch available onsite. Arrive close to 10:30 if the free ice cream matters. Twenty-five is a notably smaller number once a parking lot fills with costumed children.

THURSDAY
🌑 Raleigh's garden preview bundles lights, dinner and live music

Moonlight in the Garden Preview Night | JC Raulston Arboretum, Raleigh | Thursday, November 5, 6:30-9:30 PM | $95 general admission; $75 members

Moonlight in the Garden opens with a 600-ticket Preview Night that packages the illuminated garden with dinner, dessert and an open beer-and-wine bar. Each ticket includes one savory food-truck meal and one dessert, with four dinner trucks and two sweet options listed. Apple cider, marshmallows and a s'mores bar are also included. Relay Relay performs a set drawn from Motown, 1990s music, 2000s indie rock and current pop.

This is the premium version of the Arboretum's annual lighting event, which explains the $95 general admission price. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and none will be sold at the gate. The event runs rain or shine. Parking is free but limited, so the Arboretum recommends carpooling or using a ride service. The ticket covers enough food and drink that dinner does not need to happen twice, despite what the s'mores bar may suggest.
